Phil Howard Teams up with Greengrocer for Special Seasonal Dinner

Chef Phil Howard is teaming up with Chelsea greengrocer Andreas for a one-off dinner in the lead-up to the shop’s 25th anniversary.

Committed to sourcing the best quality fruit and veg, over the years founder Andreas Georghiou has supplied many top restaurants including The River Café and Petersham Nurseries, as well as becoming the go-to local for the great and the good of West London.

Now, he is working with Phil Howard to host a seven-course, veg-based dinner at Michelin-starred Elystan Street on Tuesday, August 7, just a stone’s throw from his shop.

Guests will be greeted with canapés and a blood peach Bellini, before sitting down to dishes showcasing Howard’s seasonal, ingredient-led approach to cooking, incorporating Andreas’s finest fruits and vegetables.

Striking a balance between late summer and early autumn flavours, the £75 menu begins with new season celeriac slaw with lovage and apple, followed by burrata with Provence black figs, Cappezzana olive oil and balsamic vinegar. Next, using Andreas’s chosen vegetables from Britain and further afield, a salad of superfine Loire Valley beans and Castel artichokes with white corn and porcini, and for the main event, slow roasted Reine tomatoes with coco beans, courgettes, Scottish girolles and wild leaves.

For dessert, Howard will bake a greengage and almond tart, before serving a simple bowl of chilled cherries to finish.

Guests can pair wines with each course, picked by Elystan Street’s sommelier for an additional £45.

Howard said: “Seasonality and its bounty is all, and there really is no other time quite like August for the sheer abundance of staggeringly delicious produce coming from the UK and Europe.

“Our Elystan Street neighbour Andreas has fruit and vegetables of unrivalled quality in London, so we devised a menu packed with the very best produce, cooked simply and with bundles of love. We are keeping it vegetarian because we just felt it was right to do so – the produce speaks for itself.”

Andreas said: “We’re counting down the days to our 25th anniversary, and what better way to celebrate than with a wonderful dinner? Phil’s cooking chimes perfectly with our focus as a greengrocer – we’re always on the hunt for the very best of the season, waiting to be eaten at just the right moment.”
