NPTC Group Win Bronze at the Hospitality Dining Awards 2015

NPTC Group Catering and Hospitality Students Newtown Campus win Bronze at the first all Wales Hospitality Students Dining Award held at our Newtown campus. Coleg Sir Gâr, won Gold while Coleg Llandrillo secured Silver.

All ten teams that took part faced a panel of expert judges and cooked a three course meal using locally sourced produce from their area. The competition was open to full-time catering and hospitality students in Wales studying levels 1 and 2 in either NVQ or VRQ. The awards were sponsored by the Institute of Hospitality Cymru, the Savoy Educational Trust, the Welsh Government and Catertech.

Lecturer Mandy Carter said “We are so pleased for all the students that took part they all work so hard and we were pleased for Robbie Lang too who received a special commendation for Kitchen Skills’.

Speaking at the ceremony, the chair of the Wales branch of the Institute of Hospitality Dana Evans said, “The competition was very close as the standard was so high. The 10 teams had to cook and prepare a three course meal using a minimum of 75% of all ingredients grown or reared from within Wales. To add to the challenge they also had a fixed budget available to them.

The students have not only worked really hard but they have been so enthusiastic throughout.”
