AA Rosette for Catering Students at Cornwall College
Staff and students at Cornwall College Camborne have been awarded an AA College Rosette for the quality of the food and standards of service at their Trevenson restaurant. This prestigious award comes a few weeks after The Cornwall College Group was recognised by People First as a one of the best catering colleges in the UK.
The AA College Rosette scheme recognises successful cooking at different levels across the UK. Success or failure in achieving Rosettes is based on a snapshot of a restaurant’s service, whereby the entire meal, including ancillary items (when served), is assessed.
Curriculum Lead for Hospitality at Cornwall College, Stuart Mathieson, said “I am delighted that our team has received this highly commended Rosette – it is an award that was won by our students who were not aware the inspection was taking place. They proved to the inspector that they had an excellent grasp of commercial sense and that they could compete well within a true restaurant environment. Trevenson is a fabulous environment to work in and reflects totally the current thinking in restaurant design.”
The report praises the students’ presentation and customer service, the quality of the food and the design of the refurbished Trevenson training restaurant which officially opened in June last year.
AA Inspector Debbie Williams reported: “The outstanding effort and work ethos noted from the students, showing great passion and professionalism for the industry. Their efficiency, skill and competence stood out above all else. Incredibly humbling to witness young people so eager to learn and progress within their roles. Well done.”
The report also heaped praise on the contemporary feel of the restaurant: “Cutting edge design and creativity has created an integral well-balanced space with a sense of direction and purpose. Smart seating has greatly improved its versatility and visual appeal, helping to create a more pleasant and comfortable atmosphere; certainly something to be proud of.”Director of Cultural and Visitor Economy at The Cornwall College Group, Miriam Venner, said: “I am so proud of our team and the work they do; obtaining an AA Colege Rosette is a fabulous achievement and one that they should be rightly delighted with. Trevenson is a perfect example of our pledge of making learning work; giving students realistic, work-based learning experiences that will help them to grow and develop.”
The awards will be officially presented to the staff and students at their annual celebration event, held at the end of June.
