Universal Cookery & Food Festival 2014 – Chefs’ Forum Member Offer
Dubbed as the ‘Glastonbury for chefs’ this year’s event is taking place on the 24th Septemberat River Cottage HQ, Axminster. Chaired by BBC Radio 2 presenter Nigel Barden and opened by Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall this event will have a jam-packed line up of culinary demonstrations, foraging and food tours and band & BBQ evening.
Line up
A number of top chefs will be discussing topics including: ‘Keeping it in the Family’, ‘A Chef Walks into a Pub’, ‘Chewing the Fat’, ‘The Future’s Bright’, ‘Contractual Obligation’, ‘Back to the Future’, ‘Cooking the books’, ‘Raw Food’, ‘River Cottage Cooks the Seasons’, ‘Making Traditional Cheddar Cheese’ and ‘British Charcuterie’, along with foraging and farm tours of River Cottage and its surroundings.
With more than 60 producers, growers and suppliers appearing at the event, chefs can explore the farmer’s market, meet suppliers, network and gather some real inspiration to take back to their own kitchens. There will also be plenty of opportunities for you to try some amazing food and drink throughout the day!
As well as all of this, you can book your place on a foraging tour, ideal for visitors wishing to explore the countryside and learn more about the edible species of plants that can be found surrounding River Cottage. For those interested in learning more about becoming self-sustained, then book your place on the farm tour to enjoy River Cottage’s famous kitchen garden, the farmhouse and poly tunnels.
Band, BBQ and Beer
We will be getting fully into the festival spirit with free beer and a BBQ in the evening. Our generous sponsors Greene King are giving you the chance to try some amazing craft beer after the main activities finish at 5pm on the 24th September. River Cottage will also be preparing great BBQ food for you to tuck into, with items charged from £6, so please bring some cash with you. Tickets include all food and refreshments throughout the day, including breakfast by the Porketeers and lunch by River Cottage’s apprentice chefs.
However, stall holders will have items available to purchase so please bring some cash in case you wish to buy anything.
Ticket prices also include entry to the Band and BBQ evening from 5pm. Food and drink on the evening will be purchasable from River Cottage from £6 per item.
