Tanner brothers to open new restaurant at City College Plymouth

City College Plymouth is launching its newly named and refurbished PL1 Restaurant on Thursday 15 November, during Colleges Week (11-18 November).

Invited guests will be welcomed with canapés and drinks whilst being able to view the bright and modern restaurant, as well as the state-of-art kitchens. Following the official opening by local celebrity chefs and restaurateurs, Chris and James Tanner, students will showcase their food and beverage service skills whilst guests enjoy some mouth-watering refreshments.

Head of Hospitality and Catering at the College, Helen Marshall, said: “The refurbishment and creation of PL1 restaurant compliments the already excellent training kitchen resources we have, and together ensures that at City College Plymouth we are leading the way in hospitality and catering training for the future.

With the refurbishment and rebranding we now have a restaurant, bar and brasserie concept, which reflects modern industry trends and customer expectations, providing the very best opportunity for our students to learn and demonstrate front-of-house skills in preparation for employment.

We are very grateful to the Savoy Educational Trust for their funding support and recognition of our drive and commitment to provide an ‘outstanding’ environment in which to train the future workforce of the local hospitality industry. We pride ourselves on delivering excellent food and service, taught by a team of dedicated, enthusiastic staff. We want the evening to be a celebration of this fantastic resource that will benefit the local community and reflect the success of past, current and future students that we hope will join us.”

Julia Sibley, Chief Executive at the Savoy Educational Trust, said: “The Trustees of the Savoy Educational Trust were aware that the College had recently benefited from investment from the Skills Funding Agency to refurbish their three training kitchens and create an additional 45 seat demonstration theatre using the latest technology and equipment. We were therefore pleased to offer funding to help the refurbishment of the training restaurant, so that it could have the required contemporary design and equipment to provide an exceptional learning environment for the very important area of ‘front-of-house’.

The funding will also allow the College to create a more flexible restaurant space that can offer both fine dining and a brasserie style service within one area so that customer numbers can be maximised and new curriculum opportunities explored.”

City College Plymouth has recently been judged as ‘Good’ with ‘Outstanding’ features by Ofsted. The hospitality and catering provision at the College was judged as ‘Outstanding’.
