World Class Chef, Nathan Outlaw Seeks an Apprentice

Budding chefs across the country are being offered a unique opportunity; to earn while they learn, working with one of the world’s best chefs.  Following the huge success of Academy Nathan Outlaw, the local celebrity chef has decided to launch his very own apprenticeship programme, with The Cornwall College Group, in order to train future stars of the industry.

A regular guest on BBC Saturday Morning Kitchen, Nathan, in partnership with The Cornwall College Group, will be offering two chef and one front of house apprenticeship.

Nathan said: “My vision is to mentor and develop highly skilled and valuable assets to the hospitality industry through a unique introduction and platform facilitated by Nathan Outlaw Restaurants Ltd and Cornwall College.  We will create individuals with an in-depth knowledge of the industry and skills required to succeed and lead in the future.  This is a very exciting opportunity to join our highly acclaimed team and we look forward to reviewing applications and in meeting potential students, we wish everyone the very best of luck.”

The apprentices will work across Nathan’s restaurants; enabling them to gain a fuller understanding of the industry.  They’ll also spend time working with some of the suppliers who work with Nathan on a regular basis, which will help them develop an understanding and appreciation of the producers in Cornwall.

Curriculum Lead for Hospitality at The Cornwall College Group, Stuart Matthieson, said: “Applications for opened last Monday (June 8th) and we have had interest from all parts of the UK including Liverpool.  This is the chance to learn from one of the best chefs in the world, whilst gaining a recognised catering qualification, with full support from The Cornwall College Group.”

Nathan Outlaw began his career helping his father, also a chef, on the weekends in Kent and went on to work with Peter Kromburg, Gary Rhodes, Rick Stein, Paul Ripley and John Campbell.  His recently relocated flagship Restaurant Nathan Outlaw in Port Isaac has held two Michelin stars for the past four years along with being named Best Fish Restaurant and one of the UK’s top 10 restaurants by the Good Food Guide.

Sally Foard, Director of Development and Adult Learning at The Cornwall College Group said: “We are delighted to be working with Nathan to deliver this excellent opportunity for three people to earn while they learn.  Research has shown that hiring an apprentice can help a business to grow their own talent by developing a motivated, skilled and qualified workplace.”
