UK & IRELAND CHEF MARK MORIARTY CROWNED AS GLOBAL S.PELLEGRINO YOUNG CHEF 2015

Moriarty emerged as the best young chef in the world following a thrilling competition which saw 20 of the most talented chefs from across the globe compete for the title.

This weekend in Milan, following a tense competition and a Grand Final event, young chef Mark Moriarty, representing the UK & Ireland region, has been crowned as the S.Pellegrino Young Chef 2015. He came out on top, with his Celeriac baked in barley and fermented hay, cured and smoked celeriac, hazelnut, celeriac and toasted hay tea, standing out as the only vegetarian dish in the competition, with the support of mentor chef Clare Smyth, at his side as a guide and advisor. San Pel Mark Dish

He emerged as the winner from twenty finalists of world’s most talented young chefs, from each corner of the of the globe, after a long and hard selection process. More than 3,000 young chefs worldwide submitted their applications together with their signature dishes through www.finedininglovers.com.

On the stage with him, Peruvian Maria José Jordan representing Latin America, came runner up with her dessert, Immortal Technique, followed by Norwegian Christian André Pettersen, representing Scandinavia, with his East meets West dish heroing salmon.

The extraordinary Jury who crowned Chef Mark Moriarty, consisted of seven famous international chefs, known as the Seven Sages: Gastón Acurio, Yannick Alléno, Massimo Bottura, Margot Janse, Yoshihiro Narisawa, Joan Roca and Grant Achatz.

It has been an honour to take part in this competition, having been able to present my dish to the Jury – a truly stellar line up of the world’s greatest Chefs. I am absolutely thrilled to have won the title of S.Pellegrino Young Chef 2015 for UK & Ireland – we don’t win enough of these kind of awards!
