José Pizarro has lived in the UK for 21 years and in that time has worked at some of London’s most prestigious Spanish restaurants including Eyre Brothers, Gaudí and Brindisa, where he set up and ran the tapas bars. In June 2011 he opened his first solo venture to great critical acclaim – José, a tapas and sherry bar – followed by the award-winning Pizarro restaurant, a few yards from José.
José trained as a chef in Cáceres, Extremadura, and moved Pizarro moved to the award-winning Meson de Doña Filo in Madrid in 1997, where he fell in love with the fresh, brightly flavoured dishes of nueva cocina.
Jose is a regular on BBC1’s Saturday Kitchen and an occasional contributor to food programmes on Channel 4 and UKTV. He worked with Rick Stein on his Spain series and Christmas programme.
He has authored two well-received cookbooks –Seasonal Spanish Food (Kyle Cathie) and Spanish Flavours (Kyle Books) and was voted ontrade personality of the year 2012 by Harpers Magazine.
