Cornwall College’s excellence in training recognised by industry

Cornwall College has become one of the first colleges in the UK, and one of only two in the South West, to be awarded gold accreditation under a new scheme launched by leading industry body the Hospitality Guild.

The College Accreditation Scheme, launched at the Professional Association for Catering Education (PACE) Awards in Nottingham recently, recognises good practice and excellence in the delivery of industry qualifications and training, bringing together employers and providers to help increase the professionalism of the hospitality industry.

A total of 11 colleges received accreditation status from the Hospitality Guild, with Cornwall College being one of eight institutions to be awarded gold status for its hospitality training provision at the Camborne, St Austell and Saltash campuses.

Suzy Jackson, Executive Director of the Hospitality Guild, said: “We know there are some fantastic colleges and providers delivering education and training in hospitality to the next generation of professionals. The aim of the Guild is to improve professional development across the industry and recognising excellence in education is a major part of that.”

Suzy continued: “We are delighted to recognise Cornwall College as an outstanding provider of education and training in hospitality.”

Trevenson Restaurant at Cornwall College Camborne also received the AA College Rosette Award, a new award scheme developed by the Hospitality Guild in conjunction with AA Hotel Services which recognises the high quality of the food produced and the excellent level of service delivered in college restaurants.

Suzy Jackson commented: “The assessment process for both the Guild accreditation and the College Rosette is rigorous and the standards are exceptionally high. Cornwall College is genuinely providing training which we believe will improve standards of professional development and, ultimately, the image of the industry.”

Both accolades signify to students that Cornwall College is one of the best places in the UK to train for a career in the hospitality industry, and demonstrates to employers that the training delivered by the College meets industry standards and develops skilled staff to meet their business needs.

Simon Cook, Corporate Curriculum Lead for Hospitality at Cornwall College, said: “This is an endorsement of everything we do at the College: teaching our students and working with employers and professionals to develop students’ skills and help them gain employment in industry. Our strong partnerships with Jamie Oliver’s Fifteen, Nathan Outlaw and many other employers, together with excellent feedback from our students and customers, are what have helped us achieve these awards, which we’re extremely grateful for.

“Gaining these accreditations also means that Cornwall College has the opportunity to help shape the future of the industry, so we’d also like to thank the Hospitality Guild and AA Hotel Services, and we look forward to working with them.”
