Bristol Restaurant Root to Host Series of Guest Chef Dinners
A Bristol restaurant is launching a series of exclusive evenings featuring some of the most acclaimed chefs in the UK.
Root in Cargo, Wapping Wharf, is owned by Michelin-starred chef Josh Eggleton, who has hosted similar guest chef dinners at his Chew Magna pub The Pony & Trap.
For the Root series, Eggleton and head chef Rob Howell are bringing some of the most exciting chefs in the UK to the Harbourside venue, which is housed in a shipping container.
The series kicks off on Thursday, March 8, with Nicholas Balfe of The Salon in Brixton. He will be followed on April 9 by Jan Ostle, the chef-owner of Wilson’s in Bristol.
Other chefs appearing are: Kirk Haworth of Plates in Shoreditch (May 8), Toby Burrows of Elystan Street restaurant in Chelsea (June 7) and Michelin-starred Niall Keating of Whatley Manor in Wiltshire, who will cook at Root on July 2.
Rob Howell said: “I’m very much looking forward to these nights. They were always great fun at the Pony and Trap and now having my own space to do it, I can’t wait.
“I am so privileged to be cooking alongside these truly outstanding chefs and am thankful that they are giving up their time to come cook down at Root.”
The collaborative tasting menus will feature six courses – three cooked by Rob and three from the guest chef that night. Menus will be announced closer to the events.
Jan Ostle of Wilson’s said: “We are incredibly honoured and excited to have been invited by Rob and Josh to this guest series.
“Working in the same space with the same people day in day out can sometime hinder creativity. Getting out there and cooking with new people who have different skills, training and ideas is a great way to learn and stay interested.”
The dinners cost £50 per person, to be paid in advance by calling 0117 9300260.
