The head chef of award winning Bath gastropub The Chequers has been recognised as one of the country’s brightest up and coming culinary talents by winning a prestigious Acorn Award. Leigh Evans was presented with the award at ceremony at Rockliffe Hall in County Durham.

 Each year, these industry awards recognise 30 people under 30 who demonstrate exceptional talent and flair in the catering & hospitality industry. They are highly sought after, very tough to win and are widely regarded as a first step on the path to culinary stardom.

 Leigh now joins an illustrious list of previous winners, including Marco Pierre White, Marcus Wareing and Michael Caines.

 The awards presentation was attended by Claridge’s general manager Thomas Kochs who gave an inspirational speech, sharing with the audience his experience of reaching the top of his profession and maintaining the exacting standards expected at the world renowned hotel.

 Speaking after having received the award, Leigh said, “I’m honoured and really thrilled to have been recognised with this award. When you see the names of some of the previous winners it’s pretty inspiring. It’s amazing to see my name and that of The Chequers alongside some of the most celebrated names in the industry.”
