Pure Ionic Water Pilot at Yeovil Hospital: Transforming Hydration and Kitchen Wellbeing

The Simply Serve catering team at Yeovil Hospital has embarked on an exciting new Research and Development pilot, trialling Pure Ionic Water technology throughout their catering facilities. This award-winning, hydrogen-rich, mineral-packed alkaline water is now directly accessible from the kitchen taps, providing the whole kitchen brigade with revitalising, remineralised hydration throughout their working day. The results have been transformative, with chefs and catering staff reporting noticeable improvements in concentration, energy levels, and overall well-being during their daily shifts.

Mathieu Eke, Head of Facilities Hotel Services at Simply Serve has been drinking and cooking with the PureIoniQ system in his kitchens, he said

“We have been truly impressed by the difference in the taste of the water. We suffer from hard water in this area and are situated within the red zone on the UK hardness map. My team has reported feeling much more energised since they have been drinking pure ionic water as part of their hydration routine. Not only is it filtered, but it is also remineralised, not to mention the sustainability benefits of refilling our water bottles – We are what we eat and drink, and I believe it is important to do everything we can to improve what we consume. I also benefit from zero cramps now with my running as a result of switching to pure ionic water.”

Pure Ionic Water is no ordinary water – It is not just Mathieu noticing improved athletic performance – It is trusted by some of the world’s leading athletes—including marathon legend Paula Radcliffe and rugby star Martin Offiah—because it does more than hydrate. It actively supports the body’s natural functions, shielding it from harmful elements like chlorine, PFAS, microplastics, and even traces of oestrogen commonly found in regular tap water. This same high-performance hydration is now available to NHS Yeovil’s hardworking chefs, helping them stay sharp, focused, and better able to perform in their working environment. Staff feedback has already shown reductions in midday fatigue, sharper focus, and an overall sense of better physical balance.

Lucy Lilley, Operations Manager at Pure Ionic Water added

“The benefits don’t stop with health and performance. Our partnership with Pure Ionic Water is helping Yeovil Hospital’s chefs lead the way on Net-Zero targets. By delivering fresh, crisp, mineral-rich water straight from the tap, we’ve eliminated the need for plastic bottled water, cutting plastic waste across the kitchen and the wider hospital. Additionally, with the world-leading PureSoft non-saltwater softener, we prevent limescale buildup, reduce maintenance costs, and lower energy bills by keeping our equipment running efficiently. This isn’t just about healthier hydration—it’s an operational and environmental game-changer.”

In collaboration with The Chefs’ Forum and its ongoing educational and research initiatives, Yeovil’s pilot is also exploring how pure, hydrogen-rich alkaline water can elevate cooking standards in hospital kitchens. Early findings from both Yeovil and partner kitchens suggest this remineralised, alkaline water enhances natural flavours, improves textures, and delivers superior prep quality in everything from bread and pasta to vegetables and bakes. This can be a game-changer in healthcare catering, where nutrition, taste, and efficiency must go hand-in-hand.

By incorporating Pure Ionic Water into their kitchens, Yeovil Hospital is setting a new gold standard in health, performance, sustainability, and culinary quality. The pilot is already delivering real benefits to chefs and staff while aligning with long-term sustainability goals identified within their green plan. Pure Ionic Water is proving that with the right technology, kitchens can nourish people and the planet simultaneously—leading the way for healthier, happier teams and better healthcare catering environments.
