Steve Fear, project manager at Space Catering Equipment of Gloucester, Finished the Rome Marathon for Charity

Steve Fear, Project Manager at Space Catering Equipment of Gloucester, finished the Rome marathon for charity in March.

He raised £1,541 for local charity Allsorts, which supports disabled children and their families.

Allsorts is the Space Group’s charity of the year. On deciding to donate funds to the charity, Fear said: “My friend Julian Hale has a son with special needs and  has often talked about Allsorts; he has a lot of good, kind things to say about it. His son Sam  has attended its youth club every week for the past year. We thought it would be a good idea to help repay this charity in some small way for the fantastic work it does.

The Chefs’ Forum thinks that this is a fantastic achievement so have sought to find out more from Steve with a little Q&A session:

Are you doing it again next year?
“No, I’m not planning to! The Rome one was supposed to be a one off just to tick the box to say I’d done one, however, I have just entered my name into the ballot for London Marathon 2016 to see what happens!  I’ve only a very, very slim chance so I’ll only need to worry about that if I get in.”

How long have you been running – do you compete in any other marathons?
“I only took up running a couple of years ago and have never done any other Marathons – Rome was my first and only (so far).”

What else will space be doing to support the charity this year?
“Space Catering is currently organising the “Space Longest Day Charity Challenge” on Saturday 20 June which will consist of a 10 mile walk followed by a 50 mile cycle ride and a 3 mile canoe – We’re all very much looking forward to taking part and raising as much money for Allsorts as possible!”
