City of Bristol College hosts Apprenticeship Awards Evening
City of Bristol College students came together recently to celebrate the success of its Apprenticeship students and their employers at the yearly Apprenticeship Awards.
Now in its fifth year, the event recognises the outstanding achievements of the College’s Apprenticeship students, who completed their framework by the end of July 2011.
Guest speakers at the event included Lee McQueen, winner of series 4 of BBC1’s ‘The Apprentice’, Lynn Merilion (Principal, City of Bristol College) and former apprentice Rob Stokes (Deputy Editor of the Bristol Post). The city’s newly-elected mayor George Ferguson also attended the event.
Among the winners was Jamie Cahill, who took the Apprentice of the Year award in Level Three in Hospitality and Catering.
Adrian Kirikmaa, Restaurant Manager at City of Bristol College, commented: “Jamie worked hard throughout his Apprenticeship and was one of the first in his class to achieve his qualification. He worked to a very high standard in his workplace, Berwick Lodge, and he also undertakes promotional duties with the Chef’s Forum, including work with BBC Radio Bristol, to inspire others to take a career in hospitality.
There are currently more than 2,500 apprenticeship students at the College. The awards event, now in its fifth year, recognised the top apprentices.
More than 140 apprentices were nominated in 20 categories, including apprentice and employer of the year.
