Unlucky for some, 2013 is set to be a BIG year for the Samways team. With increased production, up 30% from last year we are continuing to expand the area we service. This means nice new shinny delivery vans and new members in the ever expanding team.

New Factory Manager

Samways have been joined by Lithuanian born Vitoldas Balciunas. He has recently left a post with Kromer Crab where he spent 3 years overseeing their production of shellfish.

What Clive Samways says: “I’m very positive about Vitoldas coming on board; he brings a wealth of experience to Samways, particularly the high standards that he imposes on the prep team”

Vitoldas join the Operations team a few months ago and this month takes over management of the factory floor. He has already started putting into practice the 600 odd Standard Operating Procedures that he has planned. Ranging from standardization of preparation, to increasing the shelf life of your fish and shellfish through new storage techniques.  Vitoldas will be responsible for ensuring that you as chefs are always receiving the best the South Coast has to offer.

A More Sustainable Menu

In March Samways are teaming up with the Dorset Willdlife Trust.  The Great Dorset Seafood campaign pledges to supply and promote high quality, low impact seafood harvested responsibly from Dorset’s coastal waters.  With over 31000 hectares of Lyme Bay currently registered as a Special Area of Conservation the fish we supply you with comes from an increasingly vibrant marine environment.

Samways’ support of the GDS campaign fits well with our current sourcing policy of buying from small boats and local fishermen.

A Fishy Education

As part of Samways’ involvement, with The Chefs Forum, the sales team will be visiting colleges across the South West, sharing important topics in the fishing industry.
