Toru Yanada is the Executive Chef of Burra, an Antipodean cafe based in Redland, Bristol with a focus on locally sourced produce and sustainable thinking.

Trained in Tokyo in fine dining French and Italian restaurants, Yanada previously worked in two Michelin star restaurants (Hibiscus and Simpson), as well as running the rosette awarded restaurant kitchen at Riverstation, based on the Bristol harbourside.

With a reputation for creating innovative European style cuisine with fresh accents and favour balance, Yanada’s philosophy is: “You can’t be a chef if nobody wants to eats your food! Do your best for the ingredients and for the customer.”

In Spring 2022, Burra are set open their second site in the city on Gloucester Road, building on the huge success of their first venue, which debuted in Bristol in February 2020.
